RE: J4ckie's stuff
So the picture isnt finished as yet so its hard to make critisicm as i dunno if you intended to put those things in but...anyways..i'll try here.
The best advice i can give you, straight up, is to work with a pre-cleaned material. For a beginner, nothing can be more stressful or annoying or discouraging that having to clean out the black bits and see dirty lines and having trouble with the quick select tool etc. Having a precleaned work is going to be better for us too, as we can see your ability straight up and not be distracted by nasty line-art.
I think i remember you mentioning the trees causing you a bother or a long time to do. Here's the easiest way I know how to do trees.
1. Do the darkest areas first. In fact, for good measure, start the trees with the darkest shade.
2. Choose a medium shade and start applying it to different places, keeping in mine the light direction and a visual of how trees look and how the different shades are kinda scattered randomly. This shade should probably cover and overall 60% of the total tree area (i.e you should be seeing mostly this color when you look at the tree) Oops almost forgot, when applying this use a semi-hard brush, and lower the opacity to around 70% or so, and just dot the areas of this shade. Dont brush it with a sweeping motion, just dot it Its OK to let some of the dots overlap.
(That looks a little untidy to follow, i hope it was clear. Also I wanna point out that i'm kinda doing this outta my head so if it doesnt turn out great its becuz i'm not actually trying it out before i tell you Use your own discretion and artistic taste to improvise as needs be )
3. Right well you can keep that brush setting, xcept make it a little smaller maybe and then change the color to that of an even lighter color than the two you've used before. Apply using the same dot techniques. Apply ONLY to areas where the medium shade is. The highlight of the trees is supposed to be the least (depending on the lighting of course) so i'd say about 17% .
4. Well nice it up now by using a bit of smudge to take out some of the obvious circles you've made by the dotting motion. [If you've used really smally dots though, its okay to leave them unsmudginized and drop the later mentioned 'adobe leaf brush' tip] .Crap, just realized i forgot to mention layers well i'm saying it now, if all this can be done on 1 layer, its fine, mistakes just cant be made thats all . Also adobe has some built in leaf brushes, reduce there sizes to really small and apply them over the trees. DONT OVER_DO IT. Its an 'enhancement', its just supposed to compliment the picture.
Hope that helps!! Sorry i have no pics and examples and circles and arrows and stuff to help but i suck at tutorial-ness
